Cooks lifts Washington State women over Arizona 62-61

Feb 21, 2016 - 11:38 PM TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) Mariah Cooks' 3-point play with 3.4 seconds left lifted Washington State over Arizona 62-61 on Sunday, halting a nine-game losing streak.

The Cougars (13-14, 4-12 Pac 12) trailed by two with 5.5 seconds left when Nike McClure was fouled off the ball and put on the line. She missed both, but Cooks grabbed the rebound of the second, made the put-back shot and was fouled. Cooks made the free throw and Arizona's last-ditch, half-court shot missed.

Borislava Hristova led the Cougars with 16 points, and Cooks finished with 12.

Arizona (11-17, 2-14 Pac 12), which lost its 10th in a row, was led by Malena Washington with 14 points.

A pair of free throws by Cooks pulled WSU even at 56 with 3:13 to play, but Arizona got a big 3-pointer from LaBrittney Jones to go up five with 1:47 left. The Cougars clawed back at the line, hitting 4 of 9 attempts in the last 1:14.
