Langhorne, Harper help Maryland outlast Georgia Tech
Jan 20, 2008 - 10:31 PM COLLEGE PARK, Maryland (Ticker) -- Crystal Langhorne had 31 points and 15 rebounds and Laura Harper added 24 and 20 as fourth-ranked Maryland survived an Atlantic Coast Conference thriller, 99-95, in double overtime over Georgia Tech on Sunday.Marissa Coleman chipped in 24 for the Terrapins (22-1, 6-0 ACC), who won their 12th straight game.
Neither team had a lead bigger than seven during the contest and the game was sent into overtime after Georgia Tech's Janie Mitchell made a 3-pointer to tie the game at 82-82 with 10 seconds left.
The Yellow Jackets (16-3, 3-2) led by as many as six early in the first overtime before Maryland rallied, but Georgia Tech shot only 1-of-8 from the field in the second extra period, falling short of the upset.
Maryland outscored Georgia Tech, 36-6, in made free throws and went 5-of-6 from the line in the second overtime to secure the win.
Alex Montgomery had 26 points and Janie Mitchell and Iasia Hemingway each had 20 for the Yellow Jackets, who had their three-game winning streak snapped.
