Cal runs home winning streak to 28
Dec 3, 2007 - 2:42 AM BERKELEY, California (Ticker) -- Alexis Gray-Lawson scored 16 points as No. 13 California won its weekend tournament on Sunday with a 67-59 victory over No. 18 Vanderbilt.It was the 28th straight home victory for the Golden Bears (7-1) against a non-conference opponent. Rama N'diaye, a 6-foot-5 sophomore center, had 16 points and eight rebounds for Cal.
Ashley Walker added 17 points and nine boards, while Natasha Vital had six assists for the Bears, who are still without reigning Pac-10 Player of the Year Devanei Hampton, who is recovering from November 9 arthroscopic surgery on her right knee.
The Commodores (7-2) struggled from the floor, managing only seven first-half field goals. Vanderbilt's 19 points in the first half was its lowest total of the season.
Freshman Merideth Marsh had 12 points, five rebounds and six assists in her second start for the Commodores.
Cal led by as many as 22 points in the second half en route to its first victory over a ranked opponent this season after losing at Baylor on November 25. The Bears have not lost a non-conference contest at Haas Pavilion since a 66-47 defeat to Colorado on December 8, 2002.
It was the fourth meeting between the schools after Vanderbilt won, 67-55, in Nashville last season.
