Ajavon, Rutgers top California

Dec 11, 2007 - 4:15 AM PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Matee Ajavon scored 15 points and added four assists as third-ranked Rutgers stopped No. 12 California, 56-51, on Monday.

The Scarlet Knights' defense held the Bears to just 37 percent shooting (21-of-57) and forced 16 turnovers to pull out the victory.

As been procedure for the past several games, Rutgers' starters began the game on the bench, but the Scarlet Knights still managed to jump out to a 30-20 lead at the half.

Ajavon connected on 5-of-9 shots from the floor and 5-of-6 from the line. Kia Vaughn added 13 points and 15 rebounds and Epiphanny Prince added 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals for Rutgers (7-2).

Ashley Walker scored 14 points, and Rama N'diaye and Alexis Gray-Lawson had 12 points each for California (8-2).
