Connecticut starts strong, routs Duke in Paradise Jam
Nov 26, 2007 - 5:03 AM ST THOMAS, Virgin Islands (Ticker) -- Tina Charles scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds as second-ranked Connecticut captured a 74-48 victory over No. 8 Duke in the championship game of the Paradise Jam on Sunday.Maya Moore had 12 points and Renee Montgomery and Kalana Greene added 10 apiece for the Huskies (5-0), who shot 53.2 percent (25-of-47) from the field.
Connecticut was ready from the start, racing out to a 40-24 advantage at the half after connecting on 14-of-25 (56.0 percent) of their attempts.
Duke (5-1) was held to 35.7 percent (20-of-56) in absorbing its first loss.
Chante Black was the only player in double figures with 16 points for the Blue Devils, who were topped in points in the paint, 34-24, and second-chance points, 17-7.
