Hobbs helps Auburn topple Arizona State
Dec 3, 2007 - 2:04 AM TEMPE, Arizona (Ticker) -- Sherell Hobbs scored 26 points as No. 20 Auburn defeated No. 15 Arizona State, 75-69, in the championship game of the ASU Classic on Sunday.Tamela McCorvey scored 16 points, while DeWanna Bonner had 13 and 13 rebounds for the Tigers (8-0), whose victory ended the Sun Devils' six-year run as champions of their own tournament.
Lauren Lacey scored a career-high 20 points and had eight rebounds for Arizona State (4-3), which trailed at halftime, 34-29.
Jill Noe scored 16 points, Dymond Simon 12 and Briann January 11 for the Sun Devils, who dropped 0-3 this season against ranked opponents.
Hobbs scored 18 of her 26 points in the second half. McCorvey's 3-pointer with 3:02 remaining gave Auburn the lead for good at 67-65. The Tigers converted 3-of-4 free throws in the final 10 seconds to stem any rally.
