Harris 22 points help Illinois topple Ohio State
Mar 8, 2008 - 6:25 AM INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (Ticker) -- Rebecca Harris scored 22 points as ninth-seeded Illinois upset top-seeded and No. 23 Ohio State, 64-58, in the Big Ten Conference tournament on Friday.Lori Bjork scored 14 points and Jenna Smith had 13 and six rebounds for the Illini (18-13), who became the lowest seed to advance to the semifinals in tournament history. Illinois will next face No. 5 seed Michigan State on Saturday.
Harris, who connected on 8-of-17 shots from the floor, was one of three starters to play all 40 minutes for the Illini, who used just six players against the Buckeyes. Bjork nailed four shots from the arc for Illinois, which shot 46 percent (25-of-54).
Marscilla Packer scored 19 points and Jantel Lavender had 14 and 12 rebounds for Ohio State, which lost its first-ever opening game of the tournament. Prior to Saturday night, the Buckeyes were 13-0 in their opener at the Big Ten tournament.
