Allen, Notre Dame outlast Paris, Oklahoma

Mar 26, 2008 - 6:50 AM WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana (Ticker) -- Charel Allen scored a career-high 35 points as fifth-seeded Notre Dame held on for a 79-75 overtime victory over fourth-seeded Oklahoma in a second-round contest out of the Oklahoma City Regional on Tuesday.

Ashley Barlow added 16 points for the Fighting Irish, who will face top-seeded Tennessee in the regional semifinals on Sunday.

The Sooners led by as many as seven in the second half but Notre Dame used an 8-0 run to take a 57-56 lead with 5:26 remaining in regulation.

The Irish pushed the lead up to 65-60 before Oklahoma scored the final five points of regulation, capped by Courtney Paris' jumper with 16 seconds to play, which forced overtime.

In the extra frame, Barlow's jumper tied the game at 72-72 and Notre Dame (25-8) went 7-of-8 from the free throw line to pull past Oklahoma in the final minute of play.

Paris extended her double-double streak to 92 consecutive games with 24 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Sooners (22-9).
