Fowles sparks second-half rally by LSU
Dec 31, 2006 - 8:33 AM NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- Sylvia Fowles was a no-show in the first half and so was LSU's offense.Fowles scored all 18 of her points in the second half to lead No. 6 LSU to a 61-44 victory over Louisiana Tech in the Katrina Relief Basketball Classic.
A 6-6 junior center, Fowles shot 8-of-11 from the field, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked four shots to help the Lady Tigers erase a 20-19 halftime deficit with a 42-point second half.
Ashley Thomas and Quianna Chaney scored 11 points apiece for LSU (13-1), which shot 51 percent (19-of-37) to overcome a dreadful 9-of-30 effort in the opening 20 minutes.
Ty Moore scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Louisiana Tech (5-8), which shot just 28 percent (15-of-53).
