Ellis carries Marquette past South Dakota State

Dec 31, 2006 - 10:21 PM BROOKINGS, South Dakota (Ticker) -- Krystal Ellis decided to show her Marquette teammates what an all-star performance looks like.

Ellis scored a career-high 33 points, dished out seven assists and swiped five steals as No. 22 Marquette posted an 80-63 victory over South Dakota State.

Christina Quaye had 16 points and eight rebounds and Erin Monfre added nine points, all on 3-pointers, for the Golden Eagles (13-1), who have won 12 straight games.

Ellis, whose previous high was 26 at Rice on December 3, shot 9-of-16 from the field and 5-of-7 from the arc for Marquette, which made 11-of-18 from 3-point range and is off to the best start in school history.

Megan Vogel scored 20 points and Andrea Verdegan added 14 for the Jackrabbits (10-4), who shot 38 percent (23-of-61) and fell at home for the first time in 16 games.
