Pittsburgh ends Marquette win streak at 14

Jan 10, 2007 - 5:06 AM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Shavonte Zellous helped Pittsburgh snap Marquette's long winning streak.

Zellous scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lift the 23rd-ranked Panthers to a 91-87 Big East Conference victory over No. 17 Marquette in overtime.

Zellous hit a 3-pointer to trigger an 8-1 run in the extra session as Pittsburgh (13-2, 1-1) handed Marquette its first loss in 15 games.

With the Golden Eagles leading, 76-75, Zellous hit a 3-pointer, Jania Sims buried a jumper and Ashleigh Braxton connected from the arc to give the Panthers an 83-77 advantage with 1:42 left.

Xenia Stewart scored 23 points and Marcedes Walker 20 for Pittsburgh, which hit 4-of-6 shots in overtime.

Christine Quaye led Marquette (15-2, 3-1) with 29 points, including a layup at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. Krystal Ellis added 27 for the Golden Eagles, who hadn't lost since November 17 at Virginia.
