Spencer, quick start lead Tennessee over Florida

Jan 12, 2007 - 3:06 AM GAINESVILLE, Florida (Ticker) -- Sidney Spencer was clicking right from the start, leading Tennessee to its ninth straight win.

Spencer scored 21 points and Candace Parker 19 as the fourth-ranked Lady Vols posted an 80-58 victory over Florida in a Southeastern Conference contest.

Avenging a 95-93 overtime loss to the Gators here last February 26, the Lady Vols (15-1, 2-0 SEC) were hot from the start racing out to a 25-0 lead. Spencer sank four 3-pointers in that span and finished 5-of-7 from the arc.

Tennessee had a 12-game winning streak in the series until that upset win by Florida.

Parker shot 8-of-14 from the field, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked three shots.

Alexis Hornbuckle fell a rebound shy of a triple-double, scoring 10 points, handing out 10 assists and grabbing nine boards for Tennessee, which shot 45.7 percent (16-of-35) in the second half to uphold a 44-26 advantage at intermission.

Marshae Dotson scored 20 points and Depree Brown 16 for Florida (6-11, 0-2), which shot 34.5 percent (20-of-58) and committed 25 turnovers in absorbing its fourth straight loss.
