Wright sparks St. John's to upset of Pittsburgh

Jan 13, 2007 - 11:04 PM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Kia Wright scored 23 points to lead St. John's to a 76-69 victory over No. 23 Pittsburgh.

Wright added 10 assists and was key in a late surge by St. John's (5-10, 1-3 Big East) that put away the game after Pittsburgh rallied from a double-digit deficit.

Pittsburgh was down 60-49 with 8:49 to play and tied the game, 61-61, on a three-point play by Marcedes Walker 2 1/2 minutes later.

Angel Tate gave St. John's the lead with a layup, and she added a free throw to make it 64-61 with 5:33 to play. Wright extended the lead to 67-61 just over a minute later with a three-point play and Pitt never got closer than four thereafter.

Tate scored 17 points and Monique McLean added 14 for the Red Storm.

Walker scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Lady Panthers (13-3, 1-2).
