Middle Tennessee women win 18th straight game

Feb 4, 2007 - 2:01 AM MURFREESBORO, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Amber Holt scored 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead 19th-ranked Middle Tennessee State to its 18th straight victory, an 86-58 Sun Belt Conference rout of South Alabama.

Holt shot 11-of-16 from the field for Middle Tennessee (21-3, 13-0 Sun Belt), which never trailed and forced 23 turnovers, converting them into 26 points.

The Lady Raiders have not lost since an 88-64 setback to Tennessee on November 26.

South Alabama (11-12, 5-8) trailed, 37-26, at halftime, and Middle Tennessee widened the margin to as much as 30 points in the second half.

Chrissy Givens scored 16 points with five steals and Starr Orr added 11 points for Middle Tennessee, which shot 51 percent (29-of-57).

Shakira Nettles came off the bench to score 18 points and Monique Jones added 14 for South Alabama, which shot 39 percent (21-of-54).
