Strong defense leaves Georgia to victory
Mar 21, 2011 - 2:01 AM Auburn, AL (Sports Network) - Jasmine James netted 18 points to lead the sixth-seeded Georgia Lady Bulldogs to a 56-41 triumph over the 11th-seeded Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders in first-round action of the NCAA Tournament.Porsha Phillips posted 10 points and 14 boards for Georgia (22-10), which moves on to face third-seeded Florida State in round two.
Anne Marie Lanning posted 15 points in defeat for Middle Tennessee (23-8), which got 10 points from Ebony Rowe.
Georgia, which is taking part in its 17th straight NCAA Tournament, led 26-20 at intermission.
James put the game away for the Lady Bulldogs, scoring eight of her points over the final six minutes.
The Bulldogs also received 11 points from Jasmine Hassell in the victory.
