No. 22 Wis.-Green Bay beats Southern Illinois

Dec 29, 2009 - 4:09 AM GREEN BAY, Wis.(AP) -- Kayla Tetschlag had career highs of 25 points and 14 rebounds to lead No. 22 Green Bay to a 75-64 victory over Southern Illinois on Monday night.

Julie Wojta added 23 points for the Phoenix (11-0), who scored 71 points in the paint and at the free throw line and raised coach Matt Bollant's record to 200-44.

"We really challenged our post players, especially Julie, at halftime," Bollant said, "telling them, 'Hey, they're guarding you one-on-one. They're letting the ball go inside. There's absolutely no reason you can't score."'

Christine Presswood had 22 points for the Salukis (1-9), who rallied from a double-digit deficit to lead midway through the first half and trailed 34-29 at halftime. Presswood and Katerina Garcia, who finished with 14 points, combined for nine 3-pointers.

"We shot really well but when you have 25 turnovers and your opponents have 12, that's a lot of difference in shot attempts and that's going to make the difference in the outcome," Southern Illinois coach Missy Tiber said.

Tetschlag hit two free throws to give the Phoenix a 60-52 lead. Celeste Hoewisch stole the inbounds pass and hit two free throws, and stole the ball again to set up a layup by Tetschlag that made it 64-52.

"I just didn't feel like we had the right mentality," Bollant said. "Even in shoot-around today, it was a little bit happy-go-lucky, kind of enjoying the moment type of thing. I told them before the game, 'What makes you special is how hard you play and your mentality. We didn't have it."
