Michigan State shuts down Northwestern
Feb 9, 2007 - 4:20 AM EVANSTON, Illinois (Ticker) -- Mia Johnson scored 15 points and 24th-ranked Michigan State shut down Northwestern's offense in a 55-48 Big Ten Conference victory.Aisha Jefferson added 10 points and Victoria Lucas-Perry added nine and 10 rebounds for the Spartans (18-6, 9-2 Big Ten), who overcame 23 turnovers by holding the Wildcats to just 22 percent (14-of-64) shooting from the field.
Northwestern held an early nine-point edge before Michigan State's defense kicked into gear, providing a 29-22 lead at the half.
Northwestern hung around only because it collected 20 offensive rebounds and made 17-of-25 shots from the free-throw line.
Kaitlin McInerney had 15 points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats (6-19, 0-12), who are winless in conference play this season.
