Jayhawks show no rust from layoff

Dec 30, 2009 - 9:41 PM By JOHN MARSHALL AP Sports Writer

LAWRENCE, Kan.(AP) -- Sade Morris had 22 points, Danielle McCray added 15 and No. 21 Kansas was sharp early after a long layoff in an 82-63 rout over Pepperdine on Wednesday.

Kansas (10-2) manhandled the Waves in a dominating first half and coasted through the second for its seventh straight win. Krysten Boogaard added 10 points and Aishah Sutherland had 12 rebounds for the Jayhawks, who close out their nonconference schedule Sunday at New Mexico State.

Pepperdine (9-5) asked to play early - 11 a.m. California time - to save money on expenses. The Waves probably weren't going to stand much of a chance against the deep, athletic Jayhawks at Allen Fieldhouse no matter what time it was.

Pepperdine had at least a half-dozen airballs on the way to shooting 37 percent, 20 turnovers and one defensive breakdown after another.
