Marquette pulls away from St. John's in second half

Feb 14, 2007 - 4:34 AM MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Marquette found its shooting touch in the second half to put away St. John's.

Christina Quaye scored 22 points to lead the 22nd-ranked Golden Eagles to a 69-58 Big East Conference victory over the Red Storm.

Marquette (21-4, 9-3 Big East) shot 58 percent (18-of-31) in the second half and broke open the game with an 11-1 run to take a 64-51 lead with 5 1/2 minutes to play.

Quaye finished 8-of-13 from the field to help the Golden Eagles outscore the Red Storm (7-16, 3-9) in the paint, 36-20. Marquette also has a 21-0 edge in bench points.

Guards Kia Wright and Monique McLean scored 17 and 16 points, respectively, for St. John's, which shot just 34.5 percent (19-of-55).
