Wright leads No. 25 Virginia to 70-68 win over BC
Jan 22, 2010 - 2:17 AM BOSTON(AP) -- Monica Wright scored a career-high 39 points and Paulisha Kellum made a short jumper with 2.3 seconds left to lift No. 25 Virginia to a 70-68 win over Boston College on Thursday night.Wright scored 25 points in the second half for the Cavaliers (13-5, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference).
Mickel Picco and Brittany Johnson led the Eagles (11-8, 2-2) with 13 points apiece.
Virginia trailed 65-62 with 2 1/2 minutes left, but went up 68-66 when Wright hit a pair of free throws with 35.5 seconds left. Johnson then scored on a drive with 15.7 seconds remaining before Kellum hit the winner.
Massachusetts Senator-elect Scott Brown sat about 15 rows behind the Boston College bench to watch his daughter, Ayla, play for the Eagles.
A reserve, she scored all nine of her points in the final 12:52, including a key 3-pointer that put BC ahead 58-54 with just under 7 1/2 minutes to play.
