Garcia leads Wake past No. 21 UVa, 64-57

Jan 31, 2010 - 8:23 PM WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.(AP) -- Sandra Garcia scored 21 points and made three clutch free throws to help Wake Forest upset No. 21 Virginia 64-57 on Sunday.

Secily Ray added 14 points for the Demon Deacons (12-9, 4-3 Atlantic Coast Conference).

They led for the entire second half, held Virginia star Monica Wright to two points in the final 20 minutes and made 8 of 10 free throws in the final 38 seconds to beat a ranked team for the second time in 15 days.

Wake Forest improved to 3-60 against the Cavaliers, beating them for the first time since 2003.

Lexie Gerson scored 15 points, Ariana Moorer had 14 and Wright finished with 13 for the Cavaliers (15-6, 4-3).

They made it a one-possession game on Moorer's layup with 31.2 seconds left, but came up empty on their next two possessions while Wake Forest pulled away by hitting 5 of 6 free throws.
