McCoughtry leads Louisville in Big East Tournament
Mar 3, 2007 - 8:10 PM HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Angel McCoughtry scored 15 points and Jazz Covington added 11 to lead No. 21 Louisville to a 68-54 victory over St. John's in the Big East Tournament.The fifth-seeded Cardinals (25-6), who never trailed, will face West Virginia in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
McCoughtry made 6-of-9 shots from the floor and added five rebounds and three blocks. Covington was 5-of-7 from the field and pulled down eight rebounds.
The Cardinals shot 50 percent (15-of-30) in the first half en route to opening a 39-27 cushion at the break.
Louisville was able to overcome 21 turnovers by holding St. John's to 29 percent (20-of-70) shooting.
Tiina Sten scored 22 points and Angel Tate had 13 and 11 rebounds for the Red Storm (8-20).
