Givens, Middle Tennessee cruise into Sun Belt semifinals

Mar 3, 2007 - 9:07 PM LAFAYETTE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- Chrissy Givens scored 24 points to lift No. 17 Middle Tennessee State to a 79-52 triumph over South Alabama in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

It was the 24th consecutive victory for the top-seeded Lady Raiders (27-3), who became the first Sun Belt team in six years to go undefeated in regular-season conference play.

One of four Lady Raiders in double figures, Givens made all nine of her free throws and grabbed six rebounds.

Amber Holt and Krystle Horton scored 13 points apiece while reserve Latoya Barclay chipped in 10 for Middle Tennessee State, which built a 28-point halftime lead before cruising after the break.

The top-seeded Lady Raiders, who received a first-round bye, will face either Denver or Arkansas-Little Rock in Monday's semifinals.

Whitney Woodard scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for eighth-seeded South Alabama (14-16), which shot just 33 percent (16-of-49) from the floor.
