Greene leads Connecticut to Big East Conference final
Mar 6, 2007 - 1:50 AM HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Kalana Greene scored 20 points as third-ranked Connecticut to a 76-50 triumph over No. 21 Louisville to advance to the finals in the Big East Conference tournament.The Huskies (29-2) led 8-7 midway through the first half before using a 25-10 run, capped by Ketia Swanier's jumper with 2:46 left to give them a 33-17 bulge. Greene highlighted the spurt with 10 points and Connecticut went to halftime with a 38-20 advantage.
Renee Montgomery scored 14 points and Charde Houston added 10 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Huskies, who shot 53 percent (32-of-61) and dominated the points in the paint, 46-26.
Connecticut refused to lay off the throttle and opened the second half on a 10-0 run and led by as many as 37 points with just over six minutes to play in the contest.
Michelle Poindexter and Angel McCoughtry each scored nine points for the Cardinals (26-7), who shot 34 percent (19-of-56), including a dismal 3-of-17 from the arc.
