Marquette women advance behind Quaye, Ellis

Mar 17, 2007 - 9:33 PM AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) -- Christina Quaye and Krystal Ellis proved to be double trouble for Louisiana-Lafayette.

Quaye and Ellis scored 17 points apiece as sixth-seeded Marquette captured an 87-58 victory over No. 11 Louisiana-Lafayette in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament's Dayton Region.

Marissa Thrower scored 10 points off the bench for the Golden Eagles (26-6), who advanced to face third-seeded Oklahoma in Monday's second round.

Quaye shot 7-of-12 from the field and Ellis went 5-of-12 with three 3-pointers to pace a 50-percent effort from the field for Marquette (31-of-62).

The Golden Eagles, who won for the seventh time in their last nine games, went 48 percent (14-of-29) from the floor and converted 14-of-15 free throws in the first half en route to building a 44-20 advantage at the break.

Jeanenne Colbert had 17 points for the Lady Cajuns (25-9), who finished with a 44-22 deficit in points in the paint.
