Duke crushes overmatched Holy Cross

Mar 19, 2007 - 4:41 AM RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Duke made things look extremely easy in its initial NCAA Tournament game.

Abby Waner scored 26 points, including six 3-pointers, as top-seeded Duke rolled to an 81-44 triumph over No. 16 Holy Cross in the first round of the NCAA Tournament's Greensboro Region.

The Blue Devils (31-1) shot 54 percent (32-of-59) from the floor and posted a 38-22 rebounding advantage to advance to Tuesday's second-round meeting with eight-seeded Temple.

Alison Bales scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Blue Devils extended their non-conference winning streak to 34 straight games. Carrem Gay and Joy Cheek added 10 points apiece.

Bethany Davis scored 19 points and was the lone player for Holy Cross (15-18) in double figures.
