Paris leads Oklahoma to regional semifinals
Mar 20, 2007 - 3:06 AM AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) -- Oklahoma is headed to Dayton via Paris.Courtney Paris recorded her 60th consecutive double-double and the third-seeded Sooners clamped down defensively on sixth-seeded Marquette en route to a 78-47 victory in a second-round matchup in the Dayton Region of the NCAA Tournament.
Paris scored 24 points and had 10 rebounds for Oklahoma (28-4), which will face either No. 2 Maryland or seventh-seeded Mississippi in the "Sweet 16" on Sunday.
Oklahoma limited Marquette to 21 percent shooting (13-of-61) and raced out to a 29-19 lead at the half. The Sooners never looked back and led by as many as 38 late in the second half.
Leah Rush scored 10 points and Ashley Paris had eight points and 10 rebounds for the Sooners, who have won 10 straight games. The last time Oklahoma won 10 in a row was in the 2001-02 season, when the Sooners advanced to the national championship game.
Krystal Ellis scored 12 points and Efueko Osagie-Landry scored 10 for Marquette (26-7), which was outrebounded, 49-33, and committed 16 turnovers that led to 21 points for Oklahoma.
