No. 6 Miami-Florida sneaks by Florida State

Feb 19, 2012 - 11:25 PM Coral Gables, FL (Sports Network) - Riquna Williams scored 24 points and Shenise Johnson netted 23 to guide No. 6 Miami-Florida past Florida State, 67-60, at BankUnited Center on Sunday.

Johnson also pulled down nine rebounds and Stefanie Yderstrom chipped in seven points for the Hurricanes (24-3, 13-1 ACC), who have won 13 straight games and 39 in a row at home.

The Hurricanes are now tied for first place in the ACC as Duke lost to Mayland, 63-61, on Sunday to give Duke its first conference loss of the season. Miami-Florida and Duke will each put their 13-1 records to the test when they meet in Durham on Thursday.

Natasha Howard paced Florida State (13-15, 5-9) with 19 points and 13 boards. Cierra Bravard and Chelsea Davis scored 12 and 11, repectively, as the Seminoles dropped their fourth straight.

The Hurricanes converted 11 Florida State turnovers into 12 points in the first half as Miami-Florida took a 36-31 lead into the locker room.

With the game still in question, Williams ripped off seven straight for the Hurricanes to take a 50-39 lead just over five minutes into the half.

Florida State battled back as Davis' three-point play with just under seven minutes left sparked a 6-0 run for the Seminoles to tie the game at 57 with 5:21 remaining.

Miami-Florida would have the final say as Williams and Johnson combined on a 8-1 spurt to take a decisive 65-58 advantage with 23 seconds to play.
