Denver names Cremeans women's basketball coach

Apr 18, 2012 - 11:26 PM Denver, CO (Sports Network) - The University of Denver on Wednesday named Kerry Cremeans head women's basketball coach.

Cremeans, formerly an associate head coach at Auburn, replaces Erik Johnson, who left Denver for Boston College.

"I am very honored and humbled to become the new head coach at the University of Denver," Cremeans said in a release. "There is a strong foundation already in place, and I am ready to continue building on that with these incredible young ladies that represent DU. I want to especially thank Peg Bradley-Doppes and Pam Wettig for this unbelievable opportunity. They are the best-of-the- best in college athletics, and I look forward to working alongside them."

Cremeans was head recruiter at Purdue when the Boilermakers won a national championship in 1999 and when they reached the title game again in 2001, and 12 of the players during her 18-year tenure as a coach at various levels have played in the WNBA.

"The future of DU Basketball is bright and great things are on the horizon," Cremeans said. "We will represent this University and athletic department with the highest level of integrity and class. We will be relentless on the court and we will strive for excellence in the classroom. I can't wait to get started!"
