Middle Tennessee women roll in Sun Belt semifinals
Mar 5, 2007 - 8:58 PM LAFAYETTE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- Chrissy Givens scored 28 points in a solid all-around game to lead No. 17 Middle Tennessee to its 25th straight win, a 76-50 rout of Denver in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.Amber Holt added 15 points, 11 rebounds and four steals for the Blue Raiders (28-3), who dominated with their defense. They forced 27 turnovers - converting them into 30 points - and held a 44-24 advantage in rebounds.
Givens made 11-of-18 shots, adding seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. She scored 19 points in the first half, helping Middle Tennessee to a 43-17 lead.
The Blue Raiders took 72 shots, 29 more than Denver (20-11). They had 22 offensive rebounds compared to Denver's 19 defensive boards.
Nnenna Akotaobi scored 11 points but committed seven turnovers for Denver, which shot 44 percent (19-of-43).
Middle Tennessee awaits the winner of the semifinal between Arkansas State and tourney host Louisiana-Lafayette.
