Wake Forest picks Hoover to coach women's hoops program

May 9, 2012 - 7:10 PM Winston-Salem, NC (Sports Network) - Wake Forest named Jennifer Hoover as its new head women's basketball coach on Wednesday.

Hoover was a star player on the court for the Demon Deacons from 1987-91. She was a three-time All-ACC selection and still holds the school's career records for points (1,728) and rebounds (1,006).

"To be able to return home and to achieve my dream job, it's an honor," Hoover said. "I am humbled by it and ready to hit the road running. I'm very thankful to Ron Wellman, Barbara Walker, Mike Buddie, all of the alumni and the Deacon Club members that have given me support. There is a lot of excitement here. Coach Petersen and his staff did a great job and we just want to build on that."

In one season as the head coach at High Point, Hoover guided the Panthers to a 20-13 record and just the school's second appearance in the WNIT. It was her first head coaching stint.

Hoover's assistant coaching career began in 1994 and included stints at Cal, Virginia and Memphis.

Hoover takes over at Wake Forest for Mike Petersen, who resigned in April to become the head coach at North Texas.
