Clemson tabs Audra Smith as head women's hoops coach

Apr 9, 2013 - 5:51 AM Clemson, SC (Sports Network) - Audra Smith has been named Clemson's head women's basketball coach, director of athletics Dan Radakovich announced Monday.

Smith becomes the sixth head coach in Clemson history after spending the last nine seasons at UAB, where she guided the Blazers to a 138-138 record.

"After a comprehensive national search, we have chosen Coach Audra Smith to lead our storied women's basketball program," said Radakovich. "Coach Smith has been a part of many experiences, winning at the highest level as both a player and a coach, and we look forward to supporting her as the leader of our program."

Smith led the Blazers to 57 wins over the last three seasons, the most in any three-year period at UAB in 17 years.

The University of Virginia graduate takes over for Itoro Coleman, who was relieved of her duties as Clemson's head coach on March 8.

Over three seasons as Clemson's bench boss, Coleman compiled a 25-63 record, including a 9-21 mark this past season.
