South Carolina cruises past Alabama
Jan 19, 2014 - 11:22 PM Columbia, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Elem Ibiam totaled 18 points and seven rebounds to lead eighth-ranked South Carolina to a 77-51 win over Alabama from Colonial Center.Aleighsa Welch scored 12 and grabbed 10 boards and Alaina Coates contributed 10 points and nine rebounds for the Gamecocks (17-2, 5-1 SEC), who have won eight of their last nine.
Ashley Williams had 16 points for the Crimson Tide (8-10, 1-4), who have lost four of their last five.
The Gamecocks established their dominance from the tip and were ahead by double digits just under eight minutes into the game. The Crimson Tide were within 10 with 9:13 left in the first.
South Carolina led 43-26 at the half on the strength of 51.5 percent shooting (17-for-33) from the field, while Alabama made just 40 percent of their field goals.
The Gamecocks smallest lead in the second half was 19 points, which came with just under 17 minutes left to play as they sailed to the victory.
