No. 10 South Carolina holds off No. 16 Vanderbilt

Jan 27, 2014 - 12:43 AM Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Tiffany Mitchell finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals to lead No. 10 South Carolina to a 61-57 victory over No. 16 Vanderbilt.

Aleighsa Welch and Elem Ibiam scored 10 apiece, while the latter had nine rebounds for the Gamecocks (18-2, 6-1 SEC), who have won nine of their last ten.

Christina Foggie totaled 23 points for Vanderbilt (16-4, 5-2), which had its four-game winning streak snapped.

The Commodores knotted the game at 55 apiece with 1:20 left on the clock, however, Mitchell knocked down a jumper, stole the ball and netted a fastbreak layup in a span of 20 seconds to put the game away for good.

Vanderbilt took the lead with 15:47 remaining but the Gamecocks jumped right back ahead on the strength of a 10-3 surge to take a 47-41 lead.

South Carolina led for most of the first half excluding three ties. The largest deficit Vanderbilt faced was seven points in the half. The Commodores trailed 31-27 at halftime.
