DePaul avoids collapse against Oklahoma
Mar 22, 2014 - 9:36 PM Durham, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Megan Rogowski's 3-pointer with 41 seconds to play broke a 97-97 tie as the DePaul Blue Demons escaped with a 104-100 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Cameron Indoor Stadium.Rogowski finished with 24 points for the seventh-seeded Blue Demons (28-6), who move on to battle second-seed Duke. Also in double figures for DePaul were Chanise Jenkins (21 points), Brittany Hrynko (19), Jessica January (14), Megan Podkowa (13) and Jasmine Penny (11).
Aaryn Ellenberg poured in a game-high 36 points and Sharane Campbell had a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Sooners (18-15). Kaylon Williams chipped in 12 points and Morgan Hook and Portia Durrett each netted 11.
At halftime DePaul had a commanding 50-34 lead. The Blue Demons shot 57.6 percent from the field in the first half and limited Oklahoma to just 37.5 percent.
DePaul pushed its lead to as many as 19 points early in the second half, but Oklahoma came roaring back using runs of 15-4 and 20-4 to eventually claim an 84-79 advantage with 6:36 to play. The Blue Demons quickly erased the deficit with a layup from Jenkins and a pair of 3-pointers from Hrynko. The Sooners tied the game twice in the final minutes, but could never regain the lead.
The two teams combined for 23 3-pointers in what was the highest-scoring regulation game in Women's NCAA Tournament history.
