Texas A&M rides Walker to regional final

Mar 30, 2014 - 1:22 AM Lincoln, NE (SportsNetwork.com) - Courtney Walker scored a game-high 25 points, leading all five starters in double figures, as the Texas A&M Aggies defeated the DePaul Blue Demons, 84-65, in the semifinals of the Lincoln Regional at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Courtney Williams was responsible for 15 points and seven rebounds for the third-seeded Aggies (27-8), followed by Karla Gilbert and Jordan Jones with 11 points apiece and Tori Scott 10. Jones also handed out six assists and made five steals in order to offset six turnovers.

The seventh-seeded Blue Demons (29-7) were paced by Jasmine Penny who dropped in 24 points and pulled down seven rebounds, followed by Megan Rogowski with 14 points as she hit on 3-of-9 shots behind the 3-point line. Megan Podkowa accounted for 11 points, nine boards and four blocks.

DePaul had just two points through the first six minutes of the meeting and ended up shooting a dismal 8-of-29 (.276) from the floor in the first half. A mere 2-of-11 beyond the arc heading into the break, the Blue Demons trailed by a score of 38-24 at intermission.

After shooting 60 percent from the floor through the first 20 minutes of the game, the Aggies repeated the feat in the season half as they cruised to the comfortable victory.

Texas A&M missed both of its 3-pointers on the evening, compared to DePaul which was 4-of-20. The Aggies produced a 38-29 rebounding advantage which helped to combat 18 turnovers.

The Aggies will be back in action on Monday night against UConn, after the Huskies defeated BYU (70-51) on Saturday, for the right to appear in the Final Four in Nashville.
