Samford no match for Chaney, LSU
Nov 10, 2007 - 4:47 AM BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- Quianna Chaney scored a career-high 25 points in only 21 minutes Friday as No. 5 LSU routed Samford, 86-38, in the Preseason WNIT.It also marked the first game for the Lady Tigers (1-0) under coach Van Chancellor.
Chaney made 9-of-13 shots, including 3-of-5 3-pointers, to eclipse her career high of 24 set last season against Michigan State. Chaney also had five assists and four steals.
Allison Hightower scored 17 points for LSU, connecting on 7-of-9 shots. Sylvia Fowles had 10 points, six rebounds and four steals in only 16 minutes for the Lady Tigers.
Monica Maxwell led the Bulldogs (0-1) with eight points and six rebounds. Chika Okoli and Taryn Towns each added seven points for Samford. LSU out-rebounded Samford, 34-24, and scored 42 points off 28 Bulldogs' turnovers.
The Lady Tigers moved to 28-5 all-time in season openers, including eight straight wins. LSU is now 17-2 in season openers at home, including 15 straight victories.
