Florida coach Butler not with team for Lady Vols game

Jan 8, 2016 - 3:53 AM KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Florida women's basketball coach Amanda Butler wasn't with her team Thursday night for the Gators' 74-66 victory over No. 12 Tennessee because of what a school official described as a family emergency.

Assistant coach Shimmy Gray-Miller served as Florida's acting head coach for the game. Gray-Miller said after the game that Butler was expected to rejoin the team Friday.

Butler spoke to the Gators and congratulated them when the team gathered in the locker room after the victory. Florida (13-2, 1-1 SEC) had lost its last 11 games against Tennessee (10-4, 1-1) before upsetting the Lady Volunteers on Thursday.

''She's very happy,'' Gray-Miller said. ''She's very proud of her young ladies, and she said, `I'll see you tomorrow.' ''

Florida is at Ole Miss on Sunday.

Butler entered the night 165-114 in nine seasons at Florida and 205-136 in 11 seasons overall.
