Fowles, LSU dunk Louisiana-Lafayette

Nov 22, 2007 - 4:05 AM BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- Sylvia Fowles made sure Louisiana State's game against in-state rival Louisiana-Lafayette was a slam dunk.

Fowles registered a double-double and became the fifth woman in NCAA history to dunk in a game as she led the fifth-ranked Lady Tigers to a 72-37 victory over the Ragin' Cajuns on Wednesday.

A 6-6 senior center, Fowles had 21 points and 12 rebounds, punctuating her stellar effort with a one-handed dunk midway through the first half.

Fowles also had three steals and three blocked shots for LSU (4-1), which lost to Rutgers in the Final Four last season.

Erica White scored 11 points and Allison Hightower added 11 for the Lady Tigers, who forced 26 turnovers.

Whitney Dunlap led Louisiana-Lafayette (1-3) with 12 points and nine rebounds.

West Virginia's Georganne Wells, North Carolina's Charlotte Smith and Tennessee's Michelle Snow and Candace Parker are the other women to dunk in an NCAA game.
