Covile gives Temple women 68-66 upset of No. 19 USF
Feb 6, 2016 - 9:13 PM PHILADELPHIA (AP) Erica Covile had 15 points and 10 rebounds, including the game-winning putback with one second left, and Temple upset No. 19 South Florida 68-66 on Saturday to move past the Bulls into second place in the American Athletic Conference.Feyonda Fitzgerald's step-back jumper behind the foul line rolled off the right side of the rim and Covile was there for the winner for the Owls, who had 12 of their 19 offensive rebounds in the second half.
Tanaya Atkinson led Temple (15-7, 9-2), which won its fourth straight, with 17 points. Fitzgerald had 13 and Alliya Butts 12.
Courtney Williams had 22 points and 10 rebounds for South Florida (16-6, 9-3), who couldn't get off a last-second shot. Kitija Laksa added 15 points. The Bulls had won four straight.
Laksa had 11 points in the third quarter when USF turned a one-point deficit into a 52-44 lead. Temple opened the fourth quarter with a 13-2 run to lead 57-54. Williams tied it with a 3 at 5:53 and it stayed tight down the stretch.
