Strong first half helps Auburn rout California-Riverside

Dec 1, 2007 - 7:02 AM TEMPE, Arizona (Ticker) -- Tamela McCorvey scored 14 points and No. 20 Auburn used a strong finish to the first half to coast past lowly California-Riverside, 64-47, in the first round of the Arizona State University Classic on Friday.

DeWanna Bonner added nine points and 12 rebounds for the Tigers (7-0), who will play No. 15 Arizona State in the championship game on Sunday.

Auburn used a 14-0 run to take a 31-15 lead with 2:39 left in the first half and maintained the 16-point bulge at the break. The Tigers went on a 9-0 run early in the second half to take a 41-18 advantage and led by as many as 26 with 8:50 remaining.

Kemie Nkele had 17 points and 13 rebounds for UC Riverside (0-5), which shot just 29 percent (17-of-58) from the field for the game.
