Wisconsin hires Jonathan Tsipis as women's basketball coach

Mar 31, 2016 - 6:10 PM MADISON, Wis. (AP) Wisconsin has hired George Washington's Jonathan Tsipis as its women's basketball coach.

Athletic director Barry Alvarez made the announcement Thursday.

Tsipis succeeds Bobbie Kelsey, who was fired after Wisconsin went 47-100 during her five years. The Badgers haven't finished above .500 since 2010-11.

Under Tsipis, the Colonials made their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance this season to go with a second consecutive Atlantic 10 Conference championship. George Washington was 11-18 the season before he arrived in 2012-13 and became one of the nation's top rebounding teams.

Tsipis also worked as an assistant at powerhouse Notre Dame under Hall of Fame coach Muffet McGraw.
