Black helps Duke pound N.C. Central
Jan 4, 2008 - 2:27 AM DURHAM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Chante Black was perfect from the field, scoring 17 points in helping No. 13 Duke roll to an 82-29 thrashing of North Carolina Central on Thursday night.Wanisha Smith poured in 14 points and Joy Cheek, Abby Waner and Karima Christmas each chipped in 10 for the Blue Devils (11-3), who shot 45 percent (34-of-75) from the floor.
Black connected on all seven shots and sank three free throws. She registered five rebounds and three blocks.
Duke's defense was on full display, forcing an eye-popping 29 turnovers while collecting 27 points from them.
Jori Nwachukwu and Lavonna Hailey each scored eight points for North Carolina Central (2-15), which shot just 29 percent (14-of-48) and was outrebounded, 51-26.
