Chaney carries LSU past Florida State
Jan 4, 2008 - 2:54 AM TALLAHASSEE, Florida (Ticker) -- Quianna Chaney scored 27 points to help carry Louisiana State to a 73-61 victory over Florida State on Thursday night.Chaney connected on 10-of-17 shots, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range, to help take the pressure off Sylvia Fowles, who was playing in her first contest since undergoing arthroscopic surgery on her left knee on December 21.
The 6-6 Fowles came off the bench to score 11 points in 22 minutes for the 11th-ranked Tigers, who received a boost from the defense with 25 points off 16 turnovers.
LSU (11-3) shot a blistering 54 percent (27-of-50) from the field en route to its third consecutive win.
Shante Williams poured in 20 points and Antionette Howard added 11 for Florida State (10-5), which shot just 35 percent (20-of-56) and was outscored, 30-20, in the paint.
