Quick start carries No. 12 Duke to easy victory

Feb 10, 2008 - 10:33 PM DURHAM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Carrem Gay scored a game-high 15 points as No. 12 Duke defeated Wake Forest, 71-36, in an Atlantic Coast Conference game on Sunday.

The Blue Devils (18-6, 7-2 ACC) scored the game's first 12 points, holding the Demon Deacons (14-12, 1-10) scoreless until Courtney Morris made a 3-pointer with 12:42 left in the first half. Wake Forest ended up missing its first 10 shots of the game.

Joy Cheek scored 13 points and had a game-high eight rebounds for Duke. The Demon Deacons shot only 22.8 percent (13-of-57) and turned the ball over 24 times.

Abby Waner scored 12 points for the Blue Devils, topping the 1,000 career points mark midway through the first half. Waner, Jasmine Thomas, Chante Black and Keturah Jackson each had three steals for Duke.

Mekia Valentine led Wake Forest with eight points.
