Virginia rallies to reach ACC semifinals
Mar 7, 2008 - 8:10 PM GREENSBORO, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Monica Wright scored 17 points Friday afternoon as 25th-ranked Virginia posted a 52-43 victory over Georgia Tech in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.Wright shot 7-of-13 from the floor to pace the fourth-seeded Cavaliers (23-8), who advanced to the ACC semifinals for the first time in three years.
Lyndra Littles finished with 15 points and 16 rebounds while Aisha Mohammed added 12 points and 11 boards for Virginia, which rallied from a four-point deficit with just under 11 minutes remaining.
Despite shooting just under 40 percent from the field, Virginia buckled down defensively, forcing 14 turnovers while limiting Georgia Tech to just 32 percent (19-of-59) shooting.
The Cavaliers also dominated the boards, enjoying a 44-35 edge in rebounds.
Iasiah Hemingway scored 19 points off the bench to pace the Yellow Jackets (22-9), who have not reached the semis in this tournament since 2003.
