Arizona State fends off Temple
Mar 24, 2008 - 4:29 AM COLLEGE PARK, Maryland (Ticker) -- Lauren Lacey scored 14 points to help sixth-seeded Arizona State get past No. 11 Temple, 61-54, in an NCAA Tournament first-round game of the Oklahoma City Regional.Jill Noe and Briann January also were in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Sun Devils (22-10).
With the score tied at 26-26 at halftime, second-half shooting was the difference in the outcome. Arizona State shot 62 percent (13-of-21) after the break as opposed to 47 percent (9-of-19) for Temple (21-13).
Ashley Morris scored a game-high 21 points and Lady Comfort added 11 for the Owls.
The Sun Devils will meet third-seeded Duke in a second-round matchup Tuesday night.
