Texas stops Minnesota to get a shot at UConn

Mar 24, 2008 - 5:21 AM BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Brittainy Raven scored 19 points to lead eighth-seeded Texas to a 72-55 victory over No. 9 Minnesota on Sunday in a first-round matchup of the Greensboro Regional.

Erneisha Bailey scored 16 points for the Longhorns, who will play top-ranked Connecticut in the second round on Tuesday. The Huskies crushed No. 16 Cornell, 87-41, earlier Sunday.

Texas took control with an 11-0 run to close the first half for a 32-18 lead.

With the win by Texas, the Big 12 Conference went 8-0 in the first round.

Emily Fox scored 23 points and Leslie Knight added 12 for Minnesota (20-12).
