Lawrence beats the clock as GW tops Cal
Mar 25, 2008 - 5:20 AM STANFORD, California (Ticker) -- Sarah-Jo Lawrence scored four points in the final 12 seconds to lift sixth-seeded George Washington to a 55-53 victory over No. 3 California on Monday night in a Greensboro Regional second-round matchup.Lawrence made a layup with 12 seconds left to tie the game, 53-53. George Washington then got the ball back when Natasha Vital was called for traveling with six seconds to play.
Kimberly Beck shot and missed, but Lawrence was there to clean up the rebound and her short baseline putback just beat the final buzzer.
George Washington (27-6) advances to a "Sweet 16" matchup against the winner of Monday night's game between Iowa State (21-12) and Rutgers (25-6).
Antelia Parrish scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds and Lawrence added 13 points, four assists and three steals for the Colonials.
Ashley Walker scored 19 points for Cal (27-7).
