Duke headed to "Sweet 16" for 11th straight season
Mar 26, 2008 - 3:21 AM DURHAM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Chante Black had a career night at a most opportune time.Black scored a career-high 26 points to lead third-seeded Duke to a 67-59 victory over No. 6 Arizona State on Tuesday in a second-round matchup in the Oklahoma City Regional.
Thanks to Black, Duke advanced to its 11th straight "Sweet 16" appearance. The Blue Devils next will face second-seeded Texas A&M in Oklahoma City on Sunday.
Black added 13 rebounds and Jasmine Thomas scored 11 points for Duke (25-9), which is 7-1 overall when seeded third in the NCAA Tournament.
Duke never trailed but held a slim 27-24 lead at the half. The Blue Devils opened a 13-point cushion midway through the second half, and the Sun Devils were unable to close the gap down the stretch.
Briann January scored 17 points and Lauren Lacey added 13 for Arizona State (22-11).
